TWI CrackWise is a software for studying and evaluating fracture mechanics in solids based on the BS 7910 standard. Fracture mechanics or crack mechanics is a branch of solid mechanics that examines issues such as the process of creating and expanding cracks in solids and structures and its effect on deformation, depreciation, and deterioration of structures. This branch of mechanical science has been studied from two mechanical points of view, i.e. in continuous and discrete environments. This science is widely used in shipbuilding, construction of structures, especially concrete, geophysics and geology, mechanical engineering and medical engineering. Researches and researches based on this branch of mechanical science have been presented over time in the form of various standards, the most important and acceptable of these standards in the industry is BS 7910.
In this standard, equations are defined based on which the horizontal component of the damage assessment chart, the stresses on pipes and solid structures can be calculated. Many softwares have been provided based on this standard, and CrackWISE is one of the best in this field. Using this program, you can calculate and evaluate flat defects such as defects in metal welds of pipes. The reason for these types of defects in welding engineering is the lack of sufficient metal melting and penetration in the welding grooves.
