Students can expect to learn the bare minimum to start using Git in less than an hour. Course Introduction and Overview Provides an introduction to this course and the Git source control system. In Working with Git Locally, we walk through all the steps needed to start a new Git-managed project (or enable Git for an existing project) by creating a commit, including common file operations like moving and deleting files. do. We also explain how to remove the wrong files from accidental commits and how to check the repository history. Going Remote covers publishing the local repository created (previous section) on GitHub. We start by setting up SSH authentication, creating a remote version of our repository, linking the local repository to the remote version on GitHub, and finally pushing our changes to the remote repository.
Presentations features provide audio/visual training of conceptual ideas. Since few people like slide presentations, slide presentations are kept to a minimum. Screencasts provide video of the trainer’s computer system with any function, command or screen displayed and narrated. There is a total of 56 minutes of video-based instruction in this course (presentation + drama, excluding promotional video). Following each lecture or group of related lectures in the demo sections of the course are Command Listing lectures that serve as a reference and reminder of the commands used in the previous lecture(s). Each command list includes detailed lists used in previous lectures and a reference guide for newly introduced commands. All commands used in this course are available through the Command Listing lectures. Four quizzes reinforce key concepts by testing your newly learned knowledge throughout the course. Several appendices throughout the course provide additional information, images, or other reference material. Students can check out my last lecture for other Git related resources. Coach is available via email for simple questions and can provide custom paid instructions upon request – see author profile for contact.
