In this article, I am going to explain how we can use the S7-1200 motion control block to control the stepper motor. I want to use TIA Portal V15 to program SV-1200 PLC. TIA Portal has introduced a motion control library with very rich functionality. You can use open loop control as well as closed loop motion control. That is, you can control the movement of the motor with and without encoder. S7-1200 PLC has a wide range of motion control block. S7-1200 supports HSC (High Speed Counter) and PTO (High Speed Pulse Output).
S7-1200 motion library has Power operation, Reset, Homeming, Absolute motion, Motion, Jog Operation, Command table. Using this available block, we can run the program related to movement. I am using Stepper Drive and Stepper Motor from RHINO Motion Control. The engine capacity is 10 KGcm. You need a 2.2k resistor wire to reduce the voltage from 24V to 5V. To explain this, I have connected three sensors on the motor for positive limit, negative limit and home position. You can develop this model at home. I have tried to cover all basic and advanced principles of motion control.
