Description

XenDesktop is a powerful virtualization tool from Citrix company, with which users can access the Windows operating system and its programs from anywhere regardless of the platform. In fact, by installing Windows and the required programs in a central location called a server, all users, whether near or far, will be able to run Windows and its programs with any device and any platform. The only thing users need is to install the appropriate Citrix Receiver on their desired device.

Providing Windows programs is the responsibility of another module called XenApp, which used to be offered separately, but in the new version, it has been transferred to the XenDesktop subset. This module allows users to access all programs installed on Windows (located on a remote server) through the web. XenApp was presented for the first time in 2008 by the aforementioned company, although at that time it was presented under other names such as WinFrame, MetaFrame, etc. The advantage of this shared method is that users do not need to install the software they need and simply connect to the server and run their desired program.

Interestingly, Windows programs will be accessible to users on non-Windows devices such as Mac computers, mobile devices, or Chromebooks. In fact, it is possible to use XenApp for all platforms where Citrix has provided a suitable receiver. Centralized management of programs and Windows operating system has another advantage, which reduces hardware costs and manpower required to support and provide services to users.
