Finally, the Carbon 1 MK II was introduced as the first phone with carbon fiber monocoque. Carbon 1 MK2 will have an integrated carbon fiber chassis.
Carbon fiber has great properties, but it has one major drawback when used in smartphones, and that is blocking radio waves. For this reason, we see little use of these materials, but the German team Carbon Mobile finally, after years of work and effort on this issue, were able to overcome this challenge.
The Carbon 1 MK II will be the first smartphone to be built with a carbon fiber monocoque . In the outer shell of this phone, we see the integrity of the structure, and this has made the weight of the phone and the thickness of the phone appropriate. This phone weighs 125 grams and is 6.3 mm thick.
The main part of this proprietary technology is HyRECM – Hybrid Radio Enabled Composite Material technology, which has been developed over four years. This technology combines high quality German carbon fibers with composite materials to transmit radio current.
In 2017, it took 3 hours to create a similar shell, but now this process has been optimized and will only take 30 minutes. Although the speed of this work has increased 6 times, an experienced engineer is still used to supervise the molding and cutting process. The design of the monocoque has no internal frame, so all components will be connected to the carbon fiber of the chassis. Less than 5% of the materials used to make mobile phones are plastic. Also, every Carbon smartphone can be separated and turned into raw materials.
Let’s go to the specifications of Carbon 1 MK II phone. This device has a 6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18: 9. The thinnest Gorilla Glass Victus, 0.4 mm thick, protects this screen. The MK II will use the Helio P90 chip. The chipset is 12nm and has two 2.2 GHz Cortex-A75 cores, six 2 GHz A55 cores and a PowerVR GM 9446 GPU. 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 2.1 internal memory are also provided for this device. This device has dual slots and you can use microSD in one of its slots. The 1K2 carbon battery has a capacity of 3,000 mAh and can be charged up to 50% in half an hour.
This phone will be introduced with Android 10, but in the second quarter of this year, the Android 11 update will also be released for it. Carbon Mobile has promised two years of software updates and monthly security patches for the phone.
Let’s go to other specifications of the carbon phone. At the rear we see two 16-megapixel S5K3P9 sensors with f / 2.0 aperture. The selfie camera at the top of the screen will be the 20-megapixel S5K3T2. In terms of connectivity, this phone has the ability to support two 4G SIM cards. Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 5, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, USB Type-C port 3.1 and aptX HD are other features that we see in this section. We also have to say that we do not see the 3.5 mm headphone jack and a fingerprint sensor is on the side.
Carbon 1 MK II will be available online for pre-order through the company’s official website from today, and shipping will begin later this month. The phone will also be available in German stores in the next few weeks. The price of this device will be 800 euros.
