Computer modeling is an essential tool for investigating how the climate system works and how it reacts to the continuous accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. How do we know if a model is accurate? One way is to consider a past event, input historical climate data, and see if the model successfully represents the event in reasonable detail.
