Description
ESI Groundwater Vistas, a software used to simulate groundwater flow and solute transport in aquifer systems. This software provides a graphical interface for building, running and analyzing numerical flow models based on USGS e MODFLOW, MODPATHMT3D and related packages. Using a numerical model to solve a groundwater problem is a creative process. There are various techniques that can be used to solve the same problem, and each modeler has developed preferred methods for implementing model design.
ESI Groundwater Vistas facilitates the use of complex 3D groundwater models through a flexible user interface that allows the modeler to create a model in a variety of ways. However, no software package can be completely flexible, and GV is no exception. There are several important concepts and assumptions in GV that affect how a groundwater model is constructed. There are two important files that GV uses to define each problem. These files include a GV input file (hereafter referred to as a grid file) and a digitized map file. The grid file is an actual input file for GV. This file stores all finite difference data in a model-independent format. Vista files use the “.gwv” file extension. GWV file is a binary format that cannot be edited outside of the software.
Features and facilities of ESI Groundwater Vistas application
- Simulation of steady state or transient flow in confined or untreated aquifers in single or multilayer groundwater systems.
- Create a model to simulate the effects of mining or other stresses on groundwater systems.
Wellhead, withdrawal, and concentration versus time to assess impacts on individual wells or regional well fields and aquifer interactions with streams and rivers. Simulate the flow of underground water, wells and dams in mineral wells. - Import property data through spreadsheets, fields, and other formats to transfer groundwater data.
- Use particle signatures to track and estimate groundwater movement for flow or contamination, creating path contours and travel times.
- Simulation of aquifer tension caused by mine development or pumping. Run automatic or manual sensitivity analyzes on selected parameters such as vertical hydraulic conductivity or boundary condition conductivity and change parameter values for each simulation. ESI Groundwater Vistas extract both calibration and overhead information that can be displayed and analyzed.
