In this course you will first learn how to set up a high frequency transformer in PEMag. Set up the bobbin, select the core and material, set the wire size and insulation type, etc. After setting up PEmag, the same transformer file can be exported to Ansys Electronics Desktop and run as Maxwell 2D or Maxwell 3D. Then in the Maxwell section you add copper for the shield winding, primary and secondary windings. AWG solid round wire is used for the primary winding and Litz wire for the secondary winding. Several other parameters are set in 2D transient and 3D transient. Different types of solutions will be discussed, but the focus will be on 2D and 3D transient magnetization because the flyback circuit has primary and secondary winding currents that appear as triangular waveforms. For non-sinusoidal waveforms, the transient solution type will be set. A simpler circuit simulation is used to push the excitations for the primary and secondary windings of the transformer. After full commissioning of Maxwell, you will see core loss in ferrite material, copper winding losses in primary and secondary, flux density in core, current density in wire and flux lines, etc.
