ginger

Ginger, with its spicy taste, has been used as a spice for thousands of years to treat various diseases.

Ginger is native to Asia and is a flowering plant from the Zingiberaceae family. Its root or stem adds a pleasant flavor to many foods, but it is also an ancient herbal remedy for many ailments.

Drinking ginger tea can help  with  everything from motion sickness (nausea from riding in a car) to cancer prevention.

Here are a few of  the known benefits of ginger tea  . Stay with us.

Traditional medicine recommends that ginger tea can help relieve symptoms of motion sickness such as dizziness, vomiting, and cold sweats. Most studies have not been able to show the effectiveness of this plant, as motion sickness medications work better.

An old study showed that ginger reduces motion sickness. If you suffer from nausea caused by motile compounds, ginger is likely to help reduce it.

Among the benefits of ginger tea:

1- Nausea from pregnancy or chemotherapy

Some experts believe that the active ingredients in ginger (volatile oils and phenolic compounds called gingerol ) can help reduce nausea caused by pregnancy, chemotherapy, or surgery.

Be sure to consult your doctor before using ginger after surgery, as it may interfere with clotting.

Researchers suggest that ginger could be a valuable alternative to conventional anti-nausea medications in women who are pregnant, undergoing chemotherapy, or intolerant to standard medications.

2- Blood pressure and heart health

Research shows that ginger can protect against heart disease. This spicy plant can help you in the following cases:

  • It lowers blood pressure
  • Preventing heart attacks
  • Prevent blood clots
  • Reducing heartburn
  • Reducing cholesterol
  • Improve blood circulation

3- Control of weight and blood sugar

A 2012 study from Columbia University of 10 overweight men found that drinking ginger tea (in this case, ginger powder dissolved in hot water) increased their feelings of satiety and reduced hunger.

Research shows that ginger can be effective in managing excess weight. However, most of the trials are mouse studies showing that ginger can help prevent obesity and obesity-related problems.

Some research shows that ginger can help improve blood sugar control, lower A1C, insulin and triglycerides in people with type 2 diabetes.

4- Pain relief

Ginger has been used to treat infections for centuries, and there is ample evidence behind this benefit. Several studies have shown that it specifically helps reduce osteoarthritis pain in the knee.

Ginger tea can also help   relieve headaches, menstrual cramps, muscle injury, and other types of pain.

5- Immunity support and cancer prevention

Ginger tea

It is believed that the antioxidants in ginger can help boost the immune system and reduce stress. Ginger tea can also help relieve nasal congestion and other respiratory issues such as the common cold or environmental allergies.

Research has shown that ginger can help prevent cancer. Lab research shows that ginger fights different types of cancer cells, including pancreatic cancer and colon cancer.

How to make ginger tea at home?

Here is an easy ginger tea recipe. The materials you need are:

  • 4-6 thin slices of raw, peeled ginger (add more slices for stronger ginger tea)
  • 2 cups of water
  • Extract of half a lemon and honey or agave nectar, to taste (optional)

First, wash and clean the ginger root. Then peel the ginger and chop it. Fill a small saucepan with 2 cups of water. Put the ginger chunks in the water and leave them on low heat for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the amount of hot tea you prefer. Now remove from heat and add lemon juice and honey (or aloe vera) if desired.

You can also make ginger tea with milk. Boil ginger root slices in a cup of water for 10 minutes, then remove from heat and add 2 cups of milk. Boil milk and ginger for five minutes, then serve in your favorite cup.

Side effects of ginger tea

Drinking ginger tea can have side effects, but you likely won’t experience these problems unless you consume large amounts of it.

People often report bloating, heart palpitations, and nausea as side effects associated with ginger. Because ginger might lower blood pressure and have a blood-thinning effect, people taking  blood pressure medication should  consult a doctor before taking extra ginger.

Although ginger should not be consumed too much, ginger tea is an easy, delicious, and comprehensive way to boost health.
