How to find the IP address of the router

find the IP address of the router

To access the basic settings of the router, you must have the IP address of the router. This address is not the same on all routers and there is still no public router IP address. The good news is that you can easily find the IP address of your router from within your PC.

Your router’s IP address is different from your private or public IP address, but your router’s IP address is easily identifiable from inside your PC and where other network information is. In this article, we are going to introduce you to two different ways to find the router ip address. You can choose whichever is more convenient.

Method 1: Use the command line to find the IP address of your router

The easiest way is to find the router ip address via the command line (if you are comfortable with it, of course). It does not require much work, with a simple command you will have access to all the details. To get started, press Windows + R on your keyboard, this will open Run. Now enter cmd in the empty field of the Run program and click the OK button.

You will then see a program with a black screen, this is the command prompt. Type ipconfig here and press Enter. You will see various parameters in this window.

Your router’s IP address is in the Default Gateway, which in our example is

Just enter this address in your browser’s address bar and you will then be able to access the login page of your router settings.

The second method: IP address of the router through the network details

If you are not comfortable using the command line, you can also find the IP address of your router through your PC network settings. Before you start, make sure you are connected to the network, either wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable. On the desktop, click the Ladder or Monitor icon (depending on how you connect to the network) and then click Open Network and Sharing Center.

After clicking, a window will appear. In this window, click on the blue link next to the Connection option. The name of this link can vary depending on your connection status, in our example it is called Local Area Connection 8.

In the next window, click Details to see all the details of your network in a separate window. Here the IP address of the router is specified next to the Default Gateway option.

Since you can not copy the router ip address from this window, you either have to memorize it or take a screenshot of it.
