Lock your favorite apps on Android

Sometimes you decide to lock some of the apps installed on your Android device. There are several effective solutions such as defining a guest account, setting a PIN on the screen, third-party apps and Samsung Secure Folder that help you lock apps on Android. In today’s article, we will teach you how to lock apps on Android in the background or restrict access to all of them at once.

Before starting, it should be noted that all the commands in this article are applicable to mobile phones and tablets with Android version Nokia (7.0) or higher. So to continue this article, be sure to upgrade the Android version of your device.

How to lock apps on Android using Screen Pinning

To enable screen pinning on Android Pie:

1. Open Settings and touch Security & location.

2. Tap Advanced.

3. Now tap on Screen pinning.

Important Note: To get the most out of screen pinning and guest accounts, be sure to set a password, pattern, or screenpin to lock your phone before doing so.

5. To increase the security factor, tap Ask for PIN before unpinning to activate.

6. Tap the Overview icon. (This icon is square in the bottom black bar), now an app you want to pin to choose from.

7. Tap the Pin.

8. Tap Got It.

9- To take the app out of PIN mode, hold your finger on Back and Overview at the same time.

10- Enter the PIN, template, password with your biometric security option to get the page out of PIN mode.

To enable screen pinning on Android 8.0 Orio and Nokia 7.0:

1. Open Settings and touch Security & location.

2. Tap Other security settings.

3. Tap the Windows Pin.

4- Move the switch to activate the screen pinning.

5. Tap Ask for PIN before unpinning to activate.

6. Tap Overview and tap on the app window you want to lock.

7. In the lower right corner of the screen, tap the thumbtack and then OK.

How to lock the app in Android using the guest account

If you want to share your phone with another person and you also want all applications, settings and files to be hidden from his view, you must create a guest account. Guest account functions are similar to regular accounts, but use separate instances of apps on your phone.

When you activate the guest account, none of your apps or personal information will be accessible.

For Android Pie 9.0 and Orio 8.0:

To create a guest account on Android Pie and Orio:

1. Tap Settings first and then System.

2. Select Advanced.

3. Tap Multiple Users.

4. Tap Guest to switch to other users’ accounts. You can also tap the gear icon at the top right of the screen.

5- If you want to be able to receive a phone call in the same guest account environment, move the switch next to Turn on phone calls to activate it.

6. On the next screen, touch OK.

7- In addition, you can activate the guest account by opening the notification panel and touching the user icon located at the bottom of the panel.

8- To switch the account to the user mode, tap Guest.

For Android Nougat 7.0:

1. Go to Settings> Cloud and accounts> Users and then tap Guest.

2. Drag the panel down and tap the user icon at the top right of the panel.

3. Tap Guest.

With Secure Folder you can protect your selected apps with the security option. If your phone does not have Secure Folder and the Android version of the device is 7.0 or higher, you can download it from Google Play .

Note: Secure Folder is pre-installed on Samsung flagship devices such as the Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge, Galaxy + S8 / S8, Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy + S9 / S9.

1- Tap Settings and then Lock screen and security.

2. Tap Secure Folder.

3. Tap Lock Type.

4- Touch Select lock type.

5. Select Pattern, Pin or Password, then proceed by entering your phrase and confirming it.

6. From the App Drawer, tap Secure Folder and then Add Apps.

7. In the upper left corner of the screen, tap Lock.

8. A text message will appear on the screen stating that Secure Folder is locked. When you try to access Secure Folder, you will see a lock message.

9- Enter the PIN, template, password with your biometric security option to get the page out of PIN mode.

10- The app is out of PIN mode.
