It is also possible to monitor or obtain the amount of traffic exchanged on a Wi-Fi network via a smartphone or tablet. We are not talking about finding Wi-Fi signals or programs that are used to determine the amount of traffic consumed, but about obtaining complete information about a network by collecting packets published from A network with the 802.11 standard is obtained. Instead of retrieving this information from your PC or laptop, you can easily collect this information on the go with your phone or tablet.

Traffic information from a Wi-Fi network can help you troubleshoot advanced wireless network communication or troubleshoot network performance issues. This information can also be used to check security levels, test vulnerabilities, and teach ethical hacking.

By doing these tests, you will gain a more accurate and in-depth understanding of the vulnerability of a network. By examining this information, you will also have a better understanding of the nature of data packets and the information that devices and applications exchange with each other.

Although most network tracking apps only work on rooted devices, you can use the free tPacketCapture app if you have not yet unlocked your Android device . This program allows you to identify exchanged packets without the need for root access and using the VPN Service of the Android operating system. With a very simple function, this program stores packets in a file in PCAP format, and you can view its contents later through another program or by transferring it to a personal computer. The advanced version of tPacketCapture  (priced at $ 10.71) lets you add a list of specific applications, so you can only collect packet information for a specific application as needed. do.

Another application that does not require a rooted device is a free application called Wi-Fi PCAP Capture  from Kismet. But this program needs more special requirements and must be used with a special type of external Wi-Fi adapter. It also requires an OTG cable to convert Micro-USB to USB Type A.

If your Android device is rooted, you can use more apps designed for this purpose. Shark for Root and SniffDroid are two simple free apps for tracking Wi-Fi networks. Like the two programs introduced earlier, both programs require a different program to open the PCAP files to view the packets.

 Intercepter-NG ,  WiFinspect and Dr Network are three other free programs that you can use. Intercepter-NG also provides a network scanner so you can identify devices connected to that network. A cookie browser is also included to steal account login information. WiFinspect also gives you an option to search the network through port scanning, access points, and other navigation options, the vulnerability of a network, and network-based tools such as Traceroute and Ping. Dr Network also provides you with common network tools such as Ping, Netcfg, Netstat, Tcpdump, Ifconfig, ARP Cache, IP Routing Table, and IP Locator.

WiFinspect is one of the few free applications that allows you to check the vulnerability of the network.

There are two other non-free apps called bitShark ($ 2.99) and   Wi.cap. There is Network Sniffer Pro ($ 15) that only works on rooted devices. Both of them only allow you to check the package, but they have more user-friendly and user-friendly interfaces than free programs. If you want to view and analyze the exchanged packages on an Android device, these apps can be useful for you, it should be noted that you can still get the information obtained. Save in standard PCAP format and view it on other devices or computers.
