Set up two routers with one internet cable
- Two routers
- Two Ethernet cables
- Internet connection cable
Connect the internet cable to the modem. This is required when your modem is not already installed. If the modem is installed and working, go to step 3. Connect the power adapter to the modem and turn it on.
If you receive a message that requires information such as MAC ID and router serial number to activate the modem, contact your ISP and provide this information.
Connect one end of the network cable to the Ethernet port on the modem. Connect the other end of the network cable to the WAN port or modem port of the first router.
Press the router reset button with a pin and hold for 30 seconds to reset the router. It is much easier to start with the default settings of the router. This way you can set up the router step by step with its manual.
Turn on the first router. From one of the LAN ports on the router, connect a network cable to your computer’s Ethernet port.
Open a web browser on your computer and enter the default router IP address. You can find this address in the router manual. Follow the instructions and configure the router.
Like the first router, reset the second router by pressing and holding the reset button for 30 seconds. Connect a network cable from the LAN port of the first router to the WAN port or modem port of the second router.
Turn on the router. Connect your computer to a LAN port on the second router with a network cable.
Open a web browser and go to the IP address of the second router. Complete the setup process with the help of the manual.
Disable DHCP on the second router if you want computers connected to both routers to network together. This network will be useful for file sharing and other purposes. You must also assign an IP to the second router that is outside the range of IP addresses listed in the DHCP section of the first router settings.
