Skype is a software application that allows the user to make voice calls over the Internet Protocol. Phone and video calls between Skype users are completely free and you need to purchase credit to call landlines and mobile phones. It also offers various other features such as instant messaging, file transfer, video conferencing, and voice mail.

Skype is a Peer to Peer network created by Nicholas Zennstrom of Sweden and Janus Fries of Denmark. The two have previously worked together to build a file-sharing network called Kazaa. By the end of 2009, Skype had more than 500 million users.

The network’s sponsor, Skype Group, was acquired by eBay in 2005, and in 2011 Microsoft bought Skype for $ 8.5 billion. The company is headquartered in Luxembourg and has branches in London, Paris, Tallinn, and Prague.

Privacy on Skype:  New information released by the great whistleblower, Edward Snowden, shows that Microsoft is providing the NSA (National Security Agency) with a large amount of video and audio information that passes through the Skype platform. Now that Skype has already been under the control of the Chinese government to spy on the affairs of the Chinese people, it can be said that it has become one of the biggest enemies of privacy in the world.

Covered operating systems:  Skype covers almost all existing operating systems, and Skype can be used for free on Android, Mac, Windows, BlackBerry, and Linux operating systems.

Skype services:  Skype provides some of its services to its users for free. Some of these free services include calling toll-free numbers, calling other Skype users, a group calling by voice, image, and texting with other Skype users.
