With the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, China, Oppo had the opportunity to explain the rolling mechanism of the Oppo X 2021.
The video below shows how the Oppo X 2021 concept phone changes its screen size between 6.7 and 7.4 inches as it rolls.
This interaction is based on two roller motors. Each engine has gears that roll on a sheet called a warp track; Something like a timing belt!
The sheet is made of durable steel to be strong and thin at the same time. In the thinnest part, its thickness reaches only 0.1 mm; But it is strong enough to support the screen.
Whether folded or unfolded, the Oppo X display is also supported with a 2-in-1 display. This screen is made of intertwined metal filaments to have freedom of action when changing the width of the phone by roller motors.
Apparently, after numerous tests, Oppo engineers found an axle with a diameter of 6.8 mm as the best choice. This allows the flexible OLED panel to fit on the roller shaft without creasing and to remain reasonably thick.
Not to mention that earlier, the Chinese company had demonstrated its air charging technology on the Oppo X 2021.
